To everyone who joined us at Moulin Rouge! The Musical in Australia: Thank you for your laughter, your tears, your applause, and—above all—your love.

The Australian premiere season commenced on 12 November 2021 at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre. Since lifting its curtain in Melbourne, the production toured to Sydney, Perth, and Brisbane, then returned to Melbourne. Over 800 sell-out shows later, the production welcomed audiences of close to 1.4 million theatregoers across Australia.

Over 330 direct jobs were created to bring the show to life in Australia, including the incredible cast, the equally talented and hardworking creatives, local and touring backstage crew, and the countless suppliers and marketing and ticketing agencies that were employed by the production—and, of course, the immaculate teams across the country who hand-crafted the costumes, wigs, most of the set, and so much more.

In an industry first, Global Creatures created an award-winning free event entitled Get Technical! Behind the Curtain of Moulin Rouge! The Musical, with the aim of combatting industry-wide staff shortages and inspiring the next generation of theatre practitioners. Across Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, and Melbourne, Get Technical! attracted almost 5,000 students and people with transferable skills to the event.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical took Australia by storm, breaking theatre records at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre and Crown Theatre Perth, while selling out across the country.
